Plant stands have come a long way from being merely the supportive tool for
plants to being a style statement. Now they are not just used to keep the
plants arranged but also enhance the looks of any environment- indoors or
outdoors. They are not just used for keeping plants but as for decoration
too- either to show off some decorative or to accent a corner for enhancing
the whole decor. However, care has to be taken so that they may add to the
looks and do not ruin them.
- The plant stand for heavier plants should give proper support and
complement the type of flooring. For example, a lightweight pedestal is
fine for hardwood floors but not for a floor with plush carpet.
- Always consider the home decor style before choosing the material of
plant stand. Wrought iron plant stands look fine with all types of
decor- contemporary or casual- and are a must when most of your home is
furnished with wrought iron
furniture. However, a more traditional home decor will look fine
with a wooden plant stand.
- When using indoors, a wrought iron indoor plant gives a more dramatic
look. A cascading or multi-tier indoor plant stand can enhance the looks
further.
- Always differentiate between the indoor plant stands that are bought
for placing in the corner of a room from those meant for a prominent
spot. The one with delicate intricacies in design will look good in a
corner whereas heavy ornamental ones will look good on prominent places.
- Too many indoor plant stands in a single room gives a cluttered look.
If anyway, more than a one plant stand is used in a room, their height,
color, and types should vary from each other.
- Use the plant stands creatively. Antique indoor plant stands look
good by themselves- no need to cover them up with a plant. Something
interesting like lovely bird
houses or animal
figurines can also be displayed on them.
- Always consider the proportion of the plant in relation to the stand-
a heavy, overpowering stand is never a match for small, decorative
plant.
- Consider the size too. When the plant's container is placed on top of
the stand, at least two or three inches around the entire base of the
container should be left unused. It will properly support the plant and
help keep the stand stable.
- Outdoor plant stands are also good companion of your
patio furniture or for
such areas like garden, porch or courtyard. If your garden is a small
one then place some plants and flowers on outdoor plant stands and
surround them with additional plants or decorative items like
hanging baskets to
give interesting height and depth to the garden.
- The outdoor plant stands should be made of such material that can
withstand any weather condition. Wrought iron stands are best suited for
this purpose.
- If buying heavy plant stands, consider getting those with built-in
wheels to make moving and storing easy.
- If you want to save space then go for tiered plant stands which are
good for both- indoor and outdoor use.
